Most exciting, Icarus now has five great productions in the lineup for 2008/2009.  We’re presenting a season of new work at the Old Red Lion Theatre and planning a MID-SCALE tour of Othello.

We have also begun collaborations with Original Theatre Company to bring you a mid-scale tour of Vincent in Brixton in Spring 2009.

We’ll be holding auditions to these five shows beginning late summer.  Watch this space; we’ll tell you when to send in your CV.

We can now confirm that our production of The Lesson, which went to 37 venues last year, is adding one more performance this year… in ROMANIA.

The Lesson goes to Romania!

We’ve toured across the South East.

We’re transferring to Teatrul de Comedie in Bucharest, Romania for one night only, 07 April 2008!

The London Season

We have three exciting pieces of new writing premiering in 2008, beginning at the Old Red Lion Theatre in October:

Moonfleece by Philip Ridley brings the newest play by this revolutionary author into Icarus’ repertoire.  In co-production with brand new company, Whippet Productions.

Nation of II (TBC) by Alexandra Helfrecht is a shocking and comedic adaptation of Mother Night, Kurt Vonnegut's revolutionary WWII novel which asks the question: “Are we what we pretend to be?”  In co-production with Axis of Evil Theatre Company.

Rip Her to Shreds (TBC) by Grant Corr explores gender-identity and cross-dressing from the point of view of a 17-year-old boy in Mena Town, Northern Ireland who wants to be “Debbie Harry Gorgeous”.

Two Mid-Scale tours!

We are in the Tour Booking stage of two epic tours in co-production with Original Theatre Company.  We have chosen Shakespeare’s most riveting maritime tragedy, Othello: The Moor of Venice and the Olivier Award winning Vincent in Brixton by Nicholas Wright.  We already have support from West Wing Arts Centre, South Hill Park Arts Centre, and many others.  We’re talking with Theatre Royal Haymarket and The Castle about collaboration and fully expect to work with them closely, staging a reading of Vincent in Brixton on the Theatre Royal Haymarket main stage and collaborating in many ways on all shows in our upcoming seasons.

Othello: The Moor of Venice
by William Shakespeare

A tempestuous story from scandal and intrigue to lust and vengeance!

This version of Othello comes to you louder and clearer than any other in recent memory.

Tackling subjects of racism, belonging and deception, our Othello elegantly references our modern world where all sense of identity is turned topsy-turvy.

Using the sense of water and motion, Icarus sets Othello at sea near Venice and Cyprus. This is a maritime story and the feeling of violence and the Navy will permeate the story.  Design elements and performance style will bring the audience into the Venetian world of war, movement, and contrast.

Opens 23 September 2009 at South Hill Park Arts Centre.

Vincent in Brixton

The year is 1873.  A young art dealer called Vincent Van Gogh arrives at 87 Hackford Road in Brixton looking for a room and looking for love. As Vincent settles in to his new lodging, he finds himself inexplicably drawn into a secret relationship that will change his life forever.

Set in a working authentic kitchen, the smells, sights and sounds of life in 87 Hackford Road are brought vividly to life.

As the allusions between life and art intensify, this story turns this into a tragic parable about the ruthless flame of art consuming all in its path.

Opens 19 March 2009 at South Hill Park Arts Centre
